Is the nonstick coating toxic?


The main material of non-stick coating is polytetraethylene, commonly known as Teflon. This material has very good stability and is a chemically inert material. Ingesting a small amount of the coating by mistake will not affect your health and will be completely excreted. However, experts recommend that you do not continue to use non-stick pans with falling coatings. On the one hand, food is easy to stick and the pan is not easy to clean, and on the other hand, it can avoid eating more coating.


Do not turn off the fire to dry the pot


I don’t know if you have a habit of cooking the pot first? Although the non-stick pan coating is a very stable inert chemical material, when the temperature of the non-stick pan exceeds 260°C, the coating will gradually become unstable. If you keep the fire on and dry the pan, the temperature of the pan will soon exceed 350°C. 350°C is the decomposition temperature of polytetraethylene. At this temperature, polytetraethylene will decompose the harmful gas fluorophosgene. A certain dose of fluorophosgene will irritate the skin and respiratory tract, and may also cause emphysema. Before cooking with a non-stick pan, don’t cook the pan for too long, and don’t heat the oil for too long. When the oil pan smokes, the temperature is already high. After cooking, you must make sure that the stove is turned off, otherwise the coating will decompose the toxic substances if you dry it for too long, then you are really eating "poison"!


Non-stick pan maintenance


Don't use metal spatula: As there is coating on the surface of non-stick pan, try not to use metal spatula such as a shovel. It is easy to scratch the surface coating. Usually, avoid sharp objects such as knives from contacting the surface of the pan. It is recommended to use wooden or heat-resistant nylon spatula for cooking to extend the service life of the non-stick pan.


Don't wash the pot after cooking: are there many people who are used to washing the pot immediately after cooking? Put cold water into the hot pot with a "swish", and smoke will be everywhere. Don't wash non-stick pots like this! Affected by thermal expansion and contraction, this will accelerate the peeling of the coating and cause damage to the pot. Remember to wait until it is cooled before washing with cold water.


Can’t wash with steel balls: Do not use hard steel balls to clean the non-stick pan. It will scratch the thin coating of the non-stick pan. Don’t use rough rags. Just use a soft sponge cloth to clean. it is good.
